More than 18,000 applications from aspiring astronauts poured into NASA's offices recently. Looking at the gorgeous views of Earth taken from the International Space Station, it's easy to see why the job remains in high demand.
ISS Mission Commander Scott Kelly, preparing to come home to Earth after 340 days in space, sent back a series of "final sunrise" shots Tuesday, and they came across as positively wistful.
Still, he said he's ready to come home for a dip in his pool.Kelly and other astronauts who have spent time on the ISS have delighted Earthlings with a stream of amazing pictures and videos of Earth, including aurorae, nighttime city lights and thunderstorms. Here's some of what they've shared:
