Josh Evans: Washington Redskins cut safety, make four other moves

Aug. 4 (UPI) -- Josh Evans and Earl Wolff IV are no longer members of the Washington Redskins.

Washington announced the release of the two safeties on Thursday. The Redskins signed safeties Stefan McClure and Tim Scott in corresponding moves. Washington also waived defensive back Lou Young III from their Reserve/Injured list with an injury settlement.

The Jacksonville Jaguars selected Evans in the sixth round of the 2013 NFL Draft. He played three seasons for the Jaguars before joining the Redskins last season. Evans, 26, has 200 tackles, five passes defended, three fumble recoveries and a forced fumble in 49 career appearances. He has 36 career starts and played in two games last season for the Redskins.

Wolff, 27, was a fifth-round pick by the Philadelphia Eagles in the 2013 NFL Draft. He was waived in August of 2015 after suffering several knee injuries. The Redskins signed Wolff to a reserve/future contract in January. He had 51 tackles, six passes defended and an interception in 18 games for the Eagles. Wolff has seven career starts.

The Dallas Cowboys signed Scott in 2015 as an undrafted free agent out of North Carolina. He spent 2016 training camp with the Cleveland Browns but didn't play last season. McClure spent most of the 2016 season on the Indianapolis Colts' practice squad.
