Cat who resembles dog baffles the Internet

MONTREAL, Nov.

9 (UPI) -- A photo of a mysterious animal that resembles both a dog and a cat has left many people confused.

Twitter user "1evilidiot" shared a photo of the long-haired creature alongside the caption "Her.- do you have a dog or a cat? me.- I don't know."

His post gained more than 23,000 likes and 13,000 retweets and left many on the Internet scratching their heads before the poster revealed it was actually a cat named Atchoum with hypertrichosis, a condition that causes excessive hair growth.

Atchoum's website states he is a Persian cat who lives in Quebec, Canada, and purrs "with a French accent."

"Some people say my wild furs and intense amber eyes make me look like a dog, an owl, a mad scientist, a Gremlin, Lorax or the Grinch but I'm happy to be me," Atchoum's biography page states.

Atchoum also has a large following on social media via his Instagram profile and is the star of a children's book along with fellow celebrity cat Oreo.
