New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft gives Super Bowl ring to Tom Brady's mom

New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft surprised Tom Brady's mother with a Super Bowl LI ring in recognition of her health scare fighting cancer and the impact it had on her son last season.

Brady collected his fifth Super Bowl ring in February when the Patriots overcame a 25-point deficit in the third quarter to defeat the Atlanta Falcons in overtime.

Brady dedicated the game to his mother, Galynn Brady, and said the victory was that much more special when she was able to travel to Houston for the Super Bowl. Kraft revealed after the game that Galynn underwent chemotherapy and radiation to treat cancer throughout the 2016 season. Brady's father, Tom Sr., previously told the Boston Globe that Galynn finished cancer treatments in April.

The close bond between Kraft and Brady may be unlike most owner-quarterback relationships in the NFL.

The 76-year-old Kraft, who has spoken repeatedly of viewing Brady as a son, surprised the Brady family this offseason by giving Galynn a Super Bowl ring.

"He's been so supportive of my family and certainly everything my mom went through and knowing first-hand how families deal with it," Brady told ESPN on Friday when asked about the gesture. "He was always asking, 'How's mom doing? How is she feeling?'

"We didn't know up until the very end whether she was going to make it to the Super Bowl. She was a big inspiration for me, and RKK knew it. It was a great surprise to all of us when the ring showed up. She deserves it."

Brady turned 40 on Thursday as he enters his 18th NFL season. In New England's 34-28 overtime victory over Atlanta, Brady set Super Bowl records for most passing attempts (62), most completions (43) and most passing yards (466) as New England overcame a 28-3 deficit.
