Sept. 13 (UPI) -- Disney and Lucasfilm's ninth entry in their Star Wars series, tentatively titled Star Wars: Episode IX, has been pushed back to December 2019.
The sci-fi sequel will now be arriving in theaters on Dec. 20, 2019, Variety reported. Episode IX was originally slated to release on May 24, 2019.
Director Guy Ritchie's upcoming live-action remake of Aladdin will be taking the May 24, 2019 release date, noted Entertainment Weekly.
Also scheduled for release in December 2019 is Warner Bros. upcoming superhero sequel Wonder Woman 2 which is scheduled to arrive one week before Episode IX on Dec. 13.
Episode IX's new release date comes after Disney and Lucasfilm announced Tuesday that The Force Awakens helmer J.J. Abrams would be returning to the franchise to direct Episode IX in place of filmmaker Colin Trevorrow.
Abrams is penning the Star Wars sequel alongside Chris Terrio who recently co-wrote Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Justice League.
