March 23 (UPI) -- Stephan Sharp hit his wall 55 nuggets in.
The Dayton, Ohio resident took up the #MeVsNuggets challenge Wednesday night during the Cleveland Cavaliers' 126-113 loss to the Denver Nuggets. His challenge was to eat more nuggets than points the Nuggets scored.
Sharp should have probably glanced at the Nuggets' average points per game.
The team is third in the NBA, averaging 111.5 points per bout. He ran a poll before the game to see if he should attempt the feat. 'Yes' won 60 percent of the vote."Cavs gonna need you guys to play some great defense tonight," he tweeted. Sharp said his strategy was to get a quick start and build a lead. He hoped to hold onto that lead in the second half and also "not dying."
He opted for Burger King chicken nuggets.
"First 20 went pretty easy, next 20 not as well. This is going to get ugly," Sharp tweeted.
At the end of the first quarter, Sharp devoured 47 nuggets. The actual Nuggets had 34 points. At 55 nuggets, Sharp said he hit a wall and needed a halftime. He considered dropping out at 69 nuggets, while the Nuggets held a 73-58 lead at halftime.
Should I attempt #MeVsNuggets tonight? #CavsNuggets #DefendTheLand
For those unaware, #MeVsNuggets is apparently a #CavsTwitter thing where you try to eat more chicken nuggets than the Nuggets score points
#MeVsNuggets gameplan: get out to a quick start, build a lead, then hope to hang on in the second half. Also, not dying.
I can already tell this was a bad idea #MeVsNuggets pic.twitter.com/KjDqSNdIJO
End of 1: Stephan 47, Nuggets 34, Cavs 31 #MeVsNuggets
Hit a wall around 55. Might need a halftime of my own here soon. #MeVsNuggets
Considering dropping out at 69 for RTs and stuff #MeVsNuggets
At 73. No way I'm gonna take the win from the Nuggets. Playing for pride now. Aiming for 80 before I die. #MeVsNuggets
Up to 77. Aiming for 5 more to get to 82 to match the points @KingJames and @KyrieIrving put up in Game 5 #MeVsNuggets
Tapping out at 82. Godspeed if you're still going. #MeVsNuggets pic.twitter.com/o5d1ZjVz5A
Sharp said he was playing for pride at 73 nuggets, but aimed for 80 "before I die."
He said he would tap out at 82 nuggets, to match the points scored by Kyrie Irving and LeBron James in Game 5 of the NBA Finals.
Sharp said he opted for Burger King for financial reasons. He prefers Wendy's, McDonald's, and Chick-fil-A. He said the 10 nuggets set him back about $1.49 for each order. He bought 110 nuggets, which comes out to about $16.39. The nutritional facts for 110 Nuggets include about 4,730 calories, according to the Burger King Website. That includes about 605mg of cholesterol.
The Nuggets scored a season-low 83 points on Nov. 23 in a loss to the Utah Jazz.
